HOMEWORK POLICY GUIDELINES
The Homework Policy at Auckland House School for Boys is designed to reinforce classroom learning, promote independent study, and foster essential skills like time management, discipline, and critical thinking.
OBJECTIVES OF HOMEWORK
1. To reinforce concepts and skills learned in class.
2. To encourage independent thinking and research.
3. To build a habit of regular study and self-discipline.
4. To provide opportunities for creativity and problem-solving.
GUIDELINES FOR STUDENTS
1. Completion and Submission:
o Homework must be completed on time and submitted as per the instructions provided by the teacher.
2. Quality of Work:
o Effort and originality are expected in all assignments. Students should ensure their work is neat and legible.
3. Daily Practice:
o Allocate a specific time daily for homework to develop a disciplined routine.
4. Clarifications:
o Seek guidance from teachers if there is a lack of clarity about the homework. It is better to ask than to submit incomplete or incorrect work.
5. Mistakes Are Learning Opportunities:
o Homework is a space to practice and improve. Errors will be corrected to help students learn, not penalized unnecessarily.
GUIDELINES FOR PARENTS
1. Supervise, Don’t Teach:
o Parents should supervise their child’s homework but not complete or teach the content. The learning process requires the child to independently apply concepts taught in school. Over-involvement may hinder this process.
o Parents are encouraged to allow mistakes, as these provide opportunities for teachers to guide the student’s learning.
2. Encourage Independence:
o Support your child by ensuring they have the tools and environment to complete homework on their own. Avoid providing answers or completing tasks for them.
3. Provide a Conducive Environment:
o Create a quiet and distraction-free space for the child to work.
4. Avoid Over-Reliance on Technology:
o Encourage the use of notebooks and textbooks instead of phones or tablets for regular homework, as this supports better retention and understanding.
5. Regular Check-ins:
o Periodically check the child’s homework and discuss their progress.
o Communicate with teachers in case of consistent difficulties.
